Wastewater Certification Board – Announcement of Term Expirations

The Kentucky Board of Certification of Wastewater System Operators has five board member terms set to expire August 31, 2013.

The Kentucky Board of Certification of Wastewater System Operators serves in an advisory capacity to the cabinet on all aspects of wastewater operator training and certification. The Department for Environmental Protection’s Division of Compliance Assistance is responsible for providing the administrative support to this board.

The board consists of eight (8) members. KRS 224-110, the board’s authorizing statute, requires that the board be composed of individuals with professional backgrounds as follows: one (1) member employed by a municipality who holds the position of either city manager, city engineer, director of public works, or the equivalent thereof; one (1) member who is a faculty member of a college, university or professional school whose major field is related to wastewater treatment; one (1) nonvoting ex officio member representing the Energy and Environment Cabinet; and five (5) members currently employed as operators holding valid certificates where one (1) of these five (5) shall be an operator of an industrial wastewater system. Members of the board are appointed by the Governor and shall serve a four (4)-year term.

Board members shall serve without compensation, but may be reimbursed for all actual and necessary expenses incurred while discharging their official duties. The board has regularly scheduled monthly meetings, which are primarily held in Frankfort.

The cabinet is responsible for making recommendations to the Governor’s Office, so in order to facilitate the process and to make sure our office is able to base recommendations on all applicants, we are requesting that all applications, disclosure statements and resumes be submitted directly to our office.  On or about August 1, we will send all applications/resumes to the Governor’s Office for review and consideration.
