“Flushable” Wipes Are Not Flushable

The package may indicate that the new “flushable” wipes are safe for your pipes, but don’t be misled. The following link is an article about “flushable” wipes and how they have become a major problem around the country and world.

These wipes are available and useful, but should not be flushed down the toilet. They cause pump breakdown, clogs and line blockages, which may cause a disruption of services along with monetary cost associated with the manpower and equipment needed to remediate the problem.

People think “out of sight, out of mind” or “it’s only one wipe, so it will be okay,” but as seen from the articles above that is not the case. The only paper that should be flushed is toilet paper as it readily degrades. Wipes and any other objects should not be flushed, but be disposed of as solid waste.
