Certification Boards − Announcement of Board Vacancies

The Kentucky Board of Certification of Wastewater Operators and the Kentucky Board of Certification of Water Treatment and Distribution System Operators are seeking applicants to fill one or both University Representative board member positions whose terms are set to expire Aug. 31, 2017.

Both boards serve in an advisory capacity to the cabinet on all aspects of wastewater and drinking water operator training and certification. The Department for Environmental Protection’s Division of Compliance Assistance is responsible for providing the administrative support to both boards.

The drinking water board consists of five members. KRS 223-170, the board’s authorizing statute, requires that the board be composed of individuals with professional backgrounds as follows: two members who are currently employed as waterworks operators holding valid certificates; one member employed by a municipality who holds the position of either city manager, city engineer, director of public works or the equivalent thereof; one  member who is a faculty member of a college, university or professional school whose major field is related to water supply; and one ex officio member representing the Energy and Environment Cabinet. The cabinet secretary makes appointments to the board, and board members shall serve a four-year term.

The wastewater board consists of eight members. KRS 224-110, the board’s authorizing statute, requires that the board be composed of individuals with professional backgrounds as follows: one member employed by a municipality who holds the position of either city manager, city engineer, director of public works or the equivalent thereof; one  member who is a faculty member of a college, university or professional school whose major field is related to wastewater treatment; one non-voting ex officio member representing the Energy and Environment Cabinet; and five members currently employed as operators holding valid certificates where one of these five shall be an operator of an industrial wastewater system. Members of the board are appointed by the governor and shall serve a four-year term.

Board members shall serve without compensation, but may be reimbursed for all actual and necessary expenses incurred while discharging their official duties.
